The OU Club of Austin, the Austin Ridge Riders, and Keep Walnut Creek Wild will work together once again this year to improve the Main Crossing in Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park for Keep Austin Beautiful Day.
We plan to be girdling ligustrums and moving rock into place to prevent erosion, but as always we have to keep in mind that the weather won't always cooperate. If the stream is too high or the area near the crossing too wet, we will adjust our activities as needed. If that's the case, we will be blocking unapproved trails, making approved trails more sustainable, and … girdling ligustrums. (We are making progress! One of these years, we will run out of big ligustrums!)
Whatever we do, we will meet in the parking lot closest to the swimming pool, organize into groups, and move out to get our work done. Sturdy, closed-toe shoes are a must! If you'd like to be girdling ligustrums, wear long pants, because we will be getting back into the brush. Other than that, dress for the weather, bring sun protection, bring water, and be ready to work!
Jose San Miguel will be leading this project for Keep Walnut Creek Wild, and Charlie Riou will be leading it for the Austin Ridge Riders.
