GW Community Response to COVID-19

Open Opportunity

About

The Nashman Center team remains committed to supporting our students, faculty, staff, and community through this time of virtual learning and encourages our community to serve virtually when possible.

Effective March 23, 2020, all University-sponsored, in-person direct service community engagement has been suspended. No GW student is required to serve in a direct person to person capacity. In addition, multiple Nashman Center events have been canceled or postponed. These decisions have been made in the interest of protecting the health and well-being of our multiple communities.

We understand that GW community members may choose to serve wherever they are during this uncertain time. Numerous opportunities to serve virtually are available through classes, on the Nashman Center website, and elsewhere. In an effort to collect information about GW community service and for our community members to record their impact, we have created this open event.

Please use this "event" to record any community service you have completed in response to COVID-19. Type of service can be contactless grocery runs for at-risk groups, letter writing, online tutoring, donations to response organizations, etc..

Requirement Details
You are encouraged to serve virtually. Wondering if you should register to volunteer outside of your home? Based on the CDPHE and the CDC, we are asking you the following questions.
  1. Have you or someone in your household traveled to a country on the CDC’s Level 3 watch list in the last 30 days? At this time, these include China, Iran, Italy and South Korea. These may change. See the CDC’s guidelines for the most up-to-date list.
  2. Have you been exposed to someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19? See the CDC’s risk assessment guidance.
  3. Do you have symptoms consistent with COVID-19? Symptoms can include a fever, cough or shortness of breath. See the CDC’s symptom information.
If you answered "yes" to any of those questions, we ask you not to serve outside your home. We are doing all we can to align with best practices and keep our community healthy.
