Thank you for your interest in the 2021 Athens MLK Day of Service! Below you will find details about the Day of Service and this specific project.

Event Schedule
Note: Due to COVID-19, there will not be an in-person Volunteer Kickoff this year 😭 please meet directly at your site on the morning of MLK Day. A virtual kickoff may be planned - details will be provided in January.
1 Volunteer Shift: 9:00AM - 11:00AM at Athens Community Council on Aging (135 Hoyt Street) - see address notes for parking details.

Project Description
Volunteers will help tackle the overgrown kudzu and weeds on the side and back area of the Athens Community Council on Aging property. Volunteers should dress warm and wear close-toed shoes.
  • This site is family-friendly, ages 16+.
  • Volunteers should bring a filled reusable water bottle and hand sanitizer.
  • Volunteers should wear long pants and close-toed shoes. Please come dressed to get dirty.
COVID-19 Required Protocol:
  • All volunteers should take their temperature prior to showing up to volunteer.
    • If your temperature is over 100.4 on the morning of the event, please DO NOT show up to volunteer.
  • Masks are required for ALL volunteers at all times during the service project.
  • Volunteers will be asked to maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from one another.
  • Volunteers will be asked to NOT share tools - all tools will be sanitized prior to use.
    • Please feel free to bring your own tools if you have them (gloves, shovels, and loppers).
  • If you believe that you or someone in your household has been exposed to COVID-19, please DO NOT show up to volunteer.
Registration Notes
Children under 18 should be registered by their parent/guardian. To do this, select "Add Attendee" at the top of the registration page BEFORE submitting your registration form. Check the box that says "Check if minor" and you will then be prompted to enter a first and last name (you do not need to enter an email for a minor). All volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

We are not able to accommodate large group registrations. If you have a group that would like to volunteer at the same site, each individual must separately register through Engage Georgia.

Rain or shine!

Please dress appropriately. We recommend wearing closed toed shoes and pants. Please bring a filled reusable water bottle. Bring sunscreen/bug spray as necessary.

All volunteers will be expected to agree to and adhere to COVID-19 MLK Day of Service Requirements.

Wondering if you should register to volunteer? Based on the CDC guidelines, we are asking you the following questions: 
  1. Have you been exposed to someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19? See the CDC’s risk assessment guidance.

  2. Do you have symptoms consistent with COVID-19? Symptoms can include a cough or shortness of breath or at least two of the following: Fever, Chills, Repeated shaking with chills, Muscle pain, Headache, Sore throat, New loss of taste or smell. See the CDC’s symptom information.
If you answered "yes" to any of those questions, we ask you not to register. We are doing all we can to align with best practices and keep our community healthy.
Parking Details
Volunteers should meet directly at their site - there is plenty of parking available on the ACCA campus.
