Position Description:

Historically, we have provided 1:1 “Lunch buddy” college mentors to 2nd-grade students at Alder Elementary and supported Kindergarten classes. Alder Elementary School has a large population of students who face economic barriers in a diverse multilingual and multicultural area. The historic MAPS mentorship program was designed to strengthen Alder students’ awareness and understanding of what college is at an early age through one-on-one connections with PSU student mentors.

This year, in light of the pandemic, we have modified the ways in which we are supporting this historic partnership with Alder; volunteers will instead focus on developing virtual programming related to introducing the idea of college / higher education to the youth of Greater Than’s programs.

Content creation projects will be lead by MAPS leaders Alyssa and Diana, in collaboration with the volunteer group. Initial ideas include creating a TikTok channel about college for Alder youth to engage with, creating a virtual video of PSU for elementary students to "meet" students and hear what college is about, and potential opportunities to join a virtual elementary school classroom to lead an activity. However, this team is ready to hear any ideas that new members have to offer!

We are looking for students that want to flex their creativity and passion for youth development! Experience with platforms like Tiktok, Instagram, Youtube, and Canva is helpful but not required!
