About

The Wolf River Restoration Series, presented by Brother International, launches January 16, 2021, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

On Jan. 16th and 18th, Wolf River Conservancy is pleased to offer virtual service opportunities in honor of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Days of Service.

If possible, share a photo of your work to our social media pages.  Engaging volunteers and keeping track of volunteer numbers helps us to deliver on our mission to protect and enhance the Wolf River watershed as a sustainable natural resource. See below some of the ways you can serve.

Virtual Projects:

1.  Prevent pollution by cleaning out a nearby storm drain, removing trash, leaves and debris.

Litter washed into storm drain ends up in local waterways, and eventually the ocean, as water pollution. Leaves and sticks can clog storm drains, leading to flooded streets,  damage, and more water pollution in the form of excessive nutrients.  You can help!

If you like, you can also Adopt a Storm Drain through the City of Memphis Storm Water Program.

2.  Build and/or install a nest box for birds or bats.

Winter is a great time to put up a nest box!  Birds and other species which nest in cavities can benefit from artificial nest boxes to replace the loss of natural cavities in urban areas.  We've created a Nest Box Resources page with a list of local cavity-nesting species, nest box plans, nest box suppliers, and other information to help you.  If you don't have a place to install a nest box right now, you can keep it for a future service project or contact education@wolfriver.org.

3. Pick up litter - anywhere!

Litter anywhere is not just ugly.  It can end up in our waterways as pollution, washing into streams and rivers when it rains.  Picking up trash near the Wolf River, along a trail or a roadway, or in a neighborhood is a great service to both the community and the environment.

Join us for a rewarding day of service!
