About

The Office of Sustainability invites you to participate in five Invasive Plant Removal Days in November and December! The City of Auburn, Kreher Preserve and Nature Center, and the Office of Sustainability invite volunteers to gather for the invasive plant removal days at the Kreher Ecology Preserve and Nature Center and along the Charlotte and Curtis Ward Bike Trail, adjacent to Shell Toomer Parkway at the entrance to Chewacla State Park. Each Invasive Plant Removal Day will be held at a different location and time. See shifts below for details.

To spread awareness about how to identify and remove invasive plants, the City of Auburn Tree Commission has partnered with the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and Chewacla State Park to host an invasive plant removal day. Volunteers will work alongside trained park staff and Tree Commission members to learn to identify and properly remove common invasives including privet, elaeagnusCallery pear, chinaberry, mimosa and other common problem plants. Invasive plants will be removed at the Kreher Preserve and Nature Center to prepare for the Office of Sustainability's Tree Planting event in January. Properly removing invasives helps to ensure the health of new trees and native vegetation in the preserve.

More information about this project and the City’s other invasive plant removal can be found at auburnalabama.org/invasive-species.
