Green Bridges Community Garden - garden maintenance & fall planting prep

Saturday, August 19th, 2017 from 7:30am to 12:00pm (CT)

Green Bridges Community Youth Garden needs volunteers to help with a variety of tasks to prepare the garden for fall. Jobs may include: mowing, weed-eating, weed pulling, harvesting, spreading decomposed granite gravel, and tilling soil.

Please dress for the weather and possible tasks, including sunscreen and close-toed shoes. We encourage you to bring a water bottle. Water will be provided.

About the garden: The Green Bridges Community Youth Garden is developed on the grounds of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. It is intended as a resource for at-risk youth. Volunteer mentors are paired with the youths, utilizing their extensive gardening experience and desire to encourage youth to thrive. Several vegetable beds, a greenhouse, and a small-scale fruit orchard have become the tools for teaching science, math, English, technology, nutrition, business management, food preparation, and other life skills. The Green Bridges Community Youth Garden pulls the community together and builds inter-generational relationships; it goes beyond growing vegetables to growing the futures of the young men and women.
