Celebrate Texas Arbor Day!

Friday, November 17th, 2017 from 10:00am to 12:00pm (CT)

About

UT Landscape Services invites the campus community to celebrate the university’s observance of Texas Arbor Day with a tree planting on Friday, November 17, 2017. The event will start at 10am and last until noon.

Starting at 10am, the university’s arborists will lead a planting of small native trees along the banks of Waller Creek at Clark Field. These native species will replace the invasive species that were removed from this section of Waller Creek over the past year, building diversity and improving the health of this vital riparian corridor. Come and participate in helping plant for however long you are available. Landscape Services will also give away free seedling trees grown from seed collected on campus, as well as materials on tree planting and care.

In Texas, the ideal season for planting trees is fall. For that reason, our state celebrates Arbor Day on the first Friday in November. Though we are not able to host an event on the actual Arbor Day this year, we will gather on November 17 to celebrate trees and educate the campus community about the benefits of the trees on their campus property and in the community. This event supports the standards of the national Arbor Day Foundation's Tree Campus USA program, which has designated The University of Texas at Austin as a Tree Campus USA for nine consecutive years.
