About

Yalda Night is an event to gather together in the longest night of the year and celebrate the birth of sun, along with presenting different cultural aspects of this Persian tradition through poetry, music, dance and food. The event (on Sunday, Dec 3rd) starts at 3:30pm and finishes at 6pm and we need help before, during and after the event.
We need volunteers to:
-set up between 2pm-3:30pm
-check-in between 3pm to 4pm
-set up and serve dinner between 4pm-6pm
-clean up between 5pm-7pm.
It's flexible and we can work with your schedule. You can choose any combination of the time slots to help (part of a slot is fine too). Food will be provided to you at the end of the event as well. We appreciate your help very much!!

The event description is as follows:

The Iranian Students Association is hosting Yalda, so come out to a night of celebration! The event will be held December 3rd, 2017 at 3:30 p.m. in the UARK BOWL HALL located on Dickson Street. This event is ticketed.

Yalda is often heralded as the longest night of the year due to its timing – at the winter solstice. Yalda is a celebratory event of the winter solstice and is an ancient Iranian festival. This festival is to celebrate the renewal of the Sun and the coming of winter. Yalda has roots in Zoroastrianism and Babylonian traditions and much of its customs arose from these roots. Often on this night, Iranians will stay awake during the night partaking in nuts, watermelon, and pomegranate as well as performing readings of poetry and mythos.
