UT Thanks Day

Thursday, November 6th, 2014 from 9:00am to 2:00pm

About

Did you know that if surviving on tuition alone, The University of Texas at Austin would have to close its doors the first week of November each year?

Because of the generosity of donors we are able to continue providing a world-class education to our students. As a way to say THANK YOU for these gifts, The University of Texas at Austin has dedicated a special day to show our appreciation – UT Thanks Day. With this event we want to spread awareness throughout the Longhorn Nation and thank our treasured donors.

Join us at Gregory Plaza Nov. 6, 10am-2pm, to participate in thanking our donors and get some FREE treats and swag. Participate off-campus by using #UTThanksDay on your social media or by leaving a story on the Thanks Day site: http://giving.utexas.edu/how-to-give/students-hooked-on-texas/thanks-day/. We will be sharing our favorite messages!

Hey All,

Thanks Day is still on! The rain is supposed to clear up around 9 AM.

Also, since so many people did not come to the volunteer training last night, here is what we went over:

Here are the details for today that I went over at the meeting last night:

1. Get to Gregory Plaza (outside the gym on Speedway) about 5-10 minutes before your shift time. A sign-in sheet will be available at the front table so make sure you sign that to get credit. You will also need to sign a photo waiver form since we will have a photographer taking pictures.

2. Once you sign in, ask one of the volunteers where to go. I will have your assignment next to your name (it will say something like "cookies" "wrangler" "big card" "thank you cards" and the like) so you will go to the respective table to relieve the volunteers. Once there, they can explain what you need to be doing, (passing out sunglasses, cookies, asking folks to sign the big thank you card, etc.). I will be around, so you can come find me if you have questions.

3. Please do not leave your post unless you absolutely have to go to class and no one has relieved you yet. In that case, find me and I will have someone sub in for you.

4. Bathrooms are in Gregory Gym. Make sure your buddy/ies who you are working with know you need to take a break. Water bottles will be available to you, as well as you can help yourself to cookies, sunglasses or any free swag we are giving out. Make sure you dress warmly, it is going to be a bit chilly.

5. Go on http://giving.utexas.edu/how-to-give/students-hooked-on-texas/thanks-day/ to learn about the message of Thanks Day and to write your story about why you are thankful for UT. Also, use #UTThanksDay on your social media to post words of thanks to donors, students, faculty and staff, alumni, etc who help UT everyday!

Let me know if you have any questions, and I will see you today!

WOW! I am so overwhelmed/overjoyed by how many of you want to get involved with the event tomorrow! I apologize that I do not have any more shifts. I have other volunteers besides the 10 spots that are filled per shift, and I want to make sure that no one is bored or just standing around tomorrow.

I appreciate all of your help! Stay tuned for more upcoming opportunities!
