Family Room volunteers play an important role in the day-to-day operations of the Ronald McDonald Family Rooms. Volunteers help check in families, record data, keep the Family Room neat and tidy, serve as a warm, friendly face to families and provide them with resources.

Age: Must be 18 years or older
Location(s): We have four Family Rooms located at:

Commitment: Weekly or bi-weekly four-hour shift for a minimum of 6 months
Shifts:  Daily shifts are offered from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. and 5 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Duties Include:

  • Registering guests
  • Provide orientation to first time guests; provide review of Guidelines & Expectations
  • Reinforce rules and guidelines when necessary
  • Keep the Family Room neat and tidy
  • Offer resources to families
  • Help provide a warm, friendly atmosphere for families

  2. Volunteer Placement – Upon review and acceptance of your application, our Family Room Manager will contact you and to discuss your volunteer schedule and hospital placement based on your availability and interests
  3. Background Check – Hospitals conduct background checks on all volunteers
  4. Hospital Health and Safety – Receive an annual TB skin test and flu shot
  5. For Dell Children’s Medical Center and Seton Medical Center Volunteers – Provide proof of immunizations for chicken pox, mumps, measles and rubella

Requirement Details
Must complete requirements of the hospital, which at a minimum include a background check and a TB screening. Might also include requirement of immunization records and drug screen.
Dual volunteer with RMHC as well as hospital, so future volunteer opportunites are easier. Insight into a medical space for those possibly interested in a future in that field.
