Enjoyed helping the community and learning about my passion for planting
I had a great time giving back to the Austin community.
I was a nice and relaxing experience.
In this experience, I was able to learn a lot about the usefulness of a community garden and have fun while aiding in its purpose. In the garden volunteers work every week to water, install plots and plant all kinds of crops. My task this Saturday was to work on a section of the garden by removing weeds and leveling out the soil in order to prepare the section for new installation of crops. It was greatly fulfilling to know that I am helping construct a garden that serves such an important cause. The garden has plots that can be rented by students and staff so that they can grow their own food and are more keen to a healthy diet. In addition, the garden also has a community section, where volunteers plant different vegetables and fruits so that the whole community in general has a free access to healthy food when they don't have the resources to obtain anywhere else. This is an amazing cause, as it promotes a healthy diet for all of us at The University of Texas at Austin and the Austin community.
