About

Through engageDC GW students serve with one of nine partner community organizations in the District of Columbia. Students provide service to meet the everyday needs addressed by the organization, such as tutoring, meal preparation, or program support and coordination. In addition, students work with the organizations to address issues that build the organization's capacity, expand the mission or address infrastructure issues, such as program evaluation, volunteer management, web design, or developing new program areas. Students serve a full academic year and new gain perspective through leadership development and build a diverse network at GW and beyond campus committed to social justice.

" I enjoy getting to know the other volunteers at Miriam's as we work together, and working in the kitchen, there is always plenty of time to talk as we prepare food! Miriam's really builds community not only with the clients but also with the volunteers."- engageDC volunteer

"
Today I worked with a third grader and I think I spent about an hour going over his fifth grade level math problems. Although he received a fifth grade level worksheet, he had a lot of trouble with the concepts and I had to tech him common denominators, long division with double digits, and percentages from scratch. It is a skill to be able to teach another person, I have to give a lot of credit to all the teachers around the world. Kids have a very short attention span. Haha." engageDC volunteer
