Popular Praxis

About

According to our mission statement, Popular Praxis aims to “share community organizing skills and strategy” and “bring together theory and action to expand participation in organizing efforts.” To accomplish this, Popular Praxis launched the Rhode Island Social Movement Oral History Project—an oral history public humanities project that aims to document the histories of people connected to Rhode Island, either currently or in the past, who have been involved in activism, organizing, and movements for social justice. By making these interviews publicly available for viewing, both online and offline, Popular Praxis hopes to preserve important movement stories and contextualize current struggles for future Rhode Island organizers. In addition, Popular Praxis conducts trainings and workshops about the role of oral histories in social movements, community organizing, and intergenerational activism upon request. In addition to our Oral History efforts we also coordinate with grassroots organizers and organizations to provide organizing trainings and social movement dialogues in order to increase our combined impact. We welcome cultural workers, community activists, students, and organizers, to collaborate with us to provide conversations and trainings that boost our abilities to make change.
