BADM 1002 14 First Year Development

Lucas Marshall

I worked with two other fellow volunteers to pack donated sandwiches in bags and store them in the fridge so they could be served in the coming days. We threw out sandwiches that had gone bad and made sure to label each bag correctly. In addition, we also helped pack and store trail mix and sort meat and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

Had an amazing time at Martha's Table. The people were amazing, the environment very positive and the organization was also very smooth.

Made me more grateful for what I have, and definitely considering doing this more often.

Made me more grateful for what I have, and definitely considering doing this more often. During my time there, I had fun volunteering for Martha's Table. One major difference I observed between Foggy Bottom and the place I volunteered at is that Foggy Bottom is primarily white and Martha's Table was majority Black. It is enthralling to see a relation between race and income level.

Casey gave to SOME

Working at SOME was a great experience. I learned a lot about the people that reside outside of Foggy Bottom and Georgetown area. The first thing we did when we got there was clean the tables from the breakfast session and put silverware for lunch. Next Jesus and I were put into the washing room where we would clean the cups and dishes from the two lunch sessions. Finally, we helped tidy up the place where finished after that. It was a great experience and I recommended SOME to anyone who wants to serve the community in the D.C. Area.

We made an impact by helping SOME with their donations room, helping to make sure that people in need received clothing donated by community members.

Today we cleaned the kitchen and helped package food to be sent out to different communities. The team and environment at Martha's table is very warm and welcome, it makes the experiencing that much more rewarding.

Volunteered at Joyful Food Markets, presented in partnership with the Capital Area Food Bank, to reduce hunger and increase access to and consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables. As a volunteer, I assisted with creating a vibrant and joyful space for shopping, supported demos of healthy, market-inspired recipes, and assisted families with choosing and learning about fruits and vegetables.

I thoroughly enjoyed volunteering at Martha's Table Market, where I assisted clients as they shopped for their groceries, closed up the market at the end of the day, and got to directly interact with community members.

I organized clothing and baby supplies in the store and learned about the benefits of the organization.

I had a really good time completing my service hours at A Wider Circle. The staff was really helpful and organized. Both, the staff and the volunteers, took safety measure before engaging in the activity. Many donations were coming in every few minutes. So, you are always engaged trying to organize new goods.

This is a great organization to volunteer for that is filled with passionate people. Their mission to end poverty is incredible and they work hard to achieve it. The number of donations they received in one day was impressive, and it took a team effort to organize it all. I would recommend volunteering here to everyone.
