It was very nice except the dogs because I am deathly terrified of them. Working hard to create the trials, and having the bikers say thank you and congratulate us on our efforts is very rewarding. It was great exercise too!!!! It was really fun walking down the trails and moving the rocks around, also seeing just how much we could get done in 4 hours.

I had a lot of fun getting to know the other people in the group and we got a lot of cleaning done!

We were able to improve Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park by raising the land where there was drop-offs and renovating trails. We worked together to shovel up gravel and dirt, carry large buckets that contained 10-15 lbs. back and forth, and compact everything to stay in one spot. However, it was worth it after hearing appreciation from the local people who were passing through the trails.

I made new friends within the Gateway Scholar's Program. It was an enjoyable and hard-working experience. I learned about the different kinds of plants: native species that we should not cut and dangerous plants that should be avoided. It taught me the value of team work, especially when we had to remove a fallen tree off the trail. Also, the event leaders and coordinators were nice and understandable.

I was able to help beautify the creek and have some wonderful conversations. It was a worthwhile experience.

The goal was to help the trees by irrigating around the trees with mulch. It was a tough job, but it was worth it in the end.

There is always this common misconception that you have to help somewhere that hits home, but today I got the opportunity to see mother nature. I meant new people and learned what it meant to be apart of a team. We took turn raking mulch and filling wheelbarrows.

I helped pick up litter from the creek. It made me realized how many pieces of broken glass were casually thrown on the environment. I'm glad to give back to the community.

Fun experience interacting with nature, would have been better if we had brought some bug spray however!

Mulch spreading at Onion Creek was a lot of fun. Our site leaders were very nice and informative. I would definitely enjoy going to another well organized activity like this. Great stuff..

I got to explore a part of Austin I had never been to before. During that process, I got to make that area look better by picking up trash alongside the creek. Improving the environment and serving the community are two great things to do. I engaged in both of those activities simultaneously, and I'm proud of what I did.

This was a wonderful opportunity to meet new people and help restore some of the bike trails at Walnut Park after all of the rainfall we have had. It was so nice to see all of the bikers and walkers on the trail; they were all really pleased with the restoration we were doing, which felt really good.
