I volunteered at the Central Texas Food Bank during my first semester at St. Edward's. I went as a part of my Introduction to Social class. I mainly volunteered at the Community Kitchen and the Warehouse. I enjoyed sorting through donated goods with different groups of people each week. My favorite part of this experience was making meals for after school programs in the community kitchen. It was a very welcoming and fun environment to volunteer at. Knowing that one volunteer shift allows the food bank to give meals to thousands of people in Central Texas is powerful and I am glad that I dedicated my time to this organization.
Our TX Hype team helped sort and package over 6,000 lbs of food in just 3 hours!
FACT is a competitive group, and we pride ourselves on being able to raise as much food donations as possible. We strive to break our record this year of 2400lbs.
Had a great time volunteering at the food bank! Probably one of the most engaging and fun time I've had volunteering at any event. For this particular shift I was in charge of getting the food to the food inspectors. Stevo was my volunteer leader and he was great. Absolutely loved him! He gave great vibes and made my volunteering experience very enjoyable. They played 80's music on the loud speakers while we worked which made it that much more fun. Giving back to my community never felt so great. At the end of the shift, Stevo revealed to us that in one shift as a group we managed to package 7,000+ pounds of food!! I was completely blown away. There are many different jobs you can help in so I will definitely come back again and cycle through the various positions.
We sorted produce and provided meals to over 2,000 people. I enjoyed the experience once again.
My second time volunteering was great! I helped separate good and bad boxes that all the food would be going into. I will definitely be back to volunteer!
I enjoyed working with the food bank. We were able to provide thousands of meals for needy families with our volunteer contribution.
