GTCH 1001 Inquiry Approaches to Teaching

Thanks for a great semester of community engaged scholarship! A few reminders as we head into the last days of classes and finals. You can of course continue to submit hours for your classes until the last day of finals (or, when faculty tell you hours are due) however…
Tomorrow is the last day to submit hours for service awards for this year! If you are graduating, this is especially important so you can get your cords and awards-which will be mailed to you. Anyone who serves 100 or more hours in a year is eligible for an award. Please make sure you log all of your hours today or tomorrow that you want considered for the award. Information on awards can be found here https://serve.gwu.edu/awards-and-recognition.
Please remember when you log hours to add your impact to your community partner and just click the box for your class at the end-not the other way around. You can find step by step instructions on how to add hours here: https://gwstudent.webex.com/gwstudent/ldr.php?RCID=d0f2f0880acf0ae7d439e28b7e3ecf4f
And if you’ve submitted hours incorrectly how to edit hours here:
https://gwstudent.webex.com/gwstudent/ldr.php?RCID=f0d87fb84e4c0759dfe61a0e099131bd

Please remember to make your impacts public and not private so your community partner can approve them. The video also shows that process.
Two additional reminders:
We invite all students to share their experience in each of their community engaged scholarship courses with us. We and our faculty and our community partners and future students benefit from this feedback so please take the time to share it with us. The link to the survey is here: http://gwserves.givepulse.com/survey/take/WUEpN3bi1TrQckn944uL
If your faculty member has told you that your course is participating in the virtual symposium on community engaged scholarship, or if you would just like to present, please check out this blog for how to prepare for the virtual symposium https://blogs.gwu.edu/nashmanfacultyupdate/2020/04/10/join-us-for-the-spring-2020-virtual-symposium-on-community-engaged-scholarship/and don’t forget to upload your presentation!
If you have trouble uploading please email rachellt@gwmail.gwu.edu and I can help you with that process.
Also many students have asked how they can still get more hours by serving virtually because they need them for their course, or because they want to help –there are hundreds of options for virtual service on givepulse check out how to find them in 3 clicks here: https://blogs.gwu.edu/nashmanfacultyupdate/2020/04/01/opportunities-for-virtual-service-across-the-country/
If you are doing/have done service that is not part of a organization-you’ve sewn masks, or you’ve called elderly people in your neighborhood to check up on them-please submit that service here https://givepul.se/08xhfg and then click “add impact” and be sure to click the box for your class if you want/need it to count towards hour requirements-you’ll need to write a few sentences of reflection and/or attach a photo for approval.
Are you submitting your hours? Don’t let your community partner down by submitting them all at the end of the semester. Keep track of your service anywhere with the free givepulse app https://support.givepulse.com/hc/en-us/sections/360004676774-Mobile-Appand remember the deadlines for submitting your hours for recognition https://serve.gwu.edu/awards-and-recognition
In last year’s survey of Community Engaged Scholarship students, many students said: “I wished I had known about Metrorail and Bus to my site, I would have saved lots of money on transportation”. Try out the trip planner and Metro App https://www.dcmetroapp.com/ and get to your site with ease (and less stress on your wallet) https://www.wmata.com/schedules/trip-planner/
Hello GWTeach for lesson planning please select the community engagement research button for the lesson planning impacts and direct service for teaching. Thanks!
