The Courtney Campbell Causeway Clean Up Crew is a group put together by a community member named Betsy that meets most Saturdays to assist in keeping the Courtney Campbell Causeway beautiful and clean!

TIME:
  • Meet at the parking lot at 8am
  • Clean-ups usually last 2-2.5 hours
PARKING:
  • Parking lot located at 3204 Gulf to Bay Blvd, Clearwater, FL 33759
  • Please park at the designated area on north side of the Causeway in a designated space
  • Overflow parking: Jewish Seminary across Bayshore at 3190 Gulf to Bay Blvd, Clearwater, FL 33759
PROVIDED:
  • bags
  • gloves
  • grabber sticks
BRING/WEAR:
  • comfy/closed-toe shoes
  • sunscreen
  • plenty of water
  • mask
  • sanitizer
PLEASE GO OVER THE RULES, WORKPLAN, & SAFETY ITEMS BELOW BEFORE THE CLEAN UP

SAFETY:

  • Always cross at the 60/Bayshore light or the Patel and 60 light
  • Do not go on the outside of the guard rail
  • Wear the safety vest provided by leader (Return at the end with grabber)
  • Do not go in mangroves
  • Watch out for bikers- stay to one side of the trail or off the trail
WORK PLAN:
  • Depending on number of volunteers- a few will be assigned to clean the North side of the causeway from Bayshore to Patel, while the others cross over and clean the south side. All volunteers will meet at the 60/Patel south side to congregate together to continue
  • From the Patel/Beach area send the fastest walkers (up to 4 if a large group) to walk to the small bridge without picking trash and then they can turn around and start picking on the way back west to meet in the middle with the other pickers. If in a small group, this may not be possible.
  • Try to get all of the grass area on both sides of the trail (not just next to the trail) which may mean walking in the grass
  • RETURN ALL PICKERS/GRABBERS/VESTS to leader
  • Try to only pick larger (not cigarette butts) type trash
  • Drag heavy or large items to guard rail area if you are too far from a trash bin
  • Spread out for best coverage
  • If your bag gets heavy, dump in a city trash bin and continue on
  • Beach area- please make sure someone covers the beach area rather than just off the trail
  • Please meet at the beach area to drop all trash outside of one of the beach trash receptacles. Do not take trash back to car parking area. There is no trash disposal available there.
Thank you for volunteering and we look forward to seeing you on an upcoming Saturday!
