I had a really great time serving those who do not have much in this community. I felt valued and important.
We walked as a group inside the garden to see the different styles of gardening while talking about the different approaches and how they work. We were able to construct our own out-of-ground soil bed in which we out soil, compost, and reusable objects to support the new plants that will be planted there.
We met up on campus and talked about what we were going to do. Each of us grabbed two trash bags : one for recycle and one for trash. Then we split up into pairs and groups of three to walk around the streets of West Campus and help clean up the area. Then we met back on campus and there was pizza and water for us which was awesome. I'm glad I could help the campus in this way.
These three hours count toward our small group service hours project. For this project, we received one hour of credit for bringing in supplies for our class. These supplies included markers, construction paper, colored pencils, candies, regular loose-leaf paper, and anything else that we could contribute. Then, we received one hour of credit for making creative cards, notes, and signs of positive words of encouragement, supportive notes, and motivational quotes. We made sure to make them colorful and appealing and attached candies to go with them. For our last hour of credit, we walked through the campus and delivered all of these to various people who we felt could use an extra boost in their confidence or just a smile on their face.
(Trail of Lights) This experience is one I want to do have again. The atmosphere was great and the lights were breathtaking. I was able to greet visitors as they came into the Trail and worked with two other awesome volunteers. We were able to get to know each other while putting a smile on all the people that came through the gates.

Planting Trees like this with a really optimistic group was really a great experience. I learned a bit about the different kinds of trees and interacted with a lot of interesting people. I would do this again, even in the cold that we did it in!
