Jamie Lee @ ULN Internship Fair

On March 30th, I volunteered at the ULN Internship Fair. I helped check-in and direct campus partners as well as ULN volunteers. Additionally, I sat at the ULN table and talked to potential candidates for the next cohort of ULN mentors. I enjoyed telling students about my experience as a mentor and enjoyed meeting students who are eager to fill in the openings available. I plan on helping with the interview process as well and I'm excited to "pass the baton" to the incoming mentors and to see how the program continues to grow!

On March 25th, I volunteered with Longhorn Lights Out, which is a program dedicated to energy conservation here on campus. I'd heard about LLO many times before but this was my first time volunteering. I volunteered with other ULN lead mentors and that made for a fun experience. The only thing that I didn't like about the experience was that some lights would automatically be turned back on by custodial staff so in a sense, it sort of defeated the purpose. I do think that the program is a great way to limit energy waste at UT and with better coordination, I believe LLO can grow to be a great success.

ULN End of the Year Community Service Holiday Event

The end of year care package event was especially rewarding for me since I was one of the many people who helped plan the event. It made me happy to see such a great turnout and the end result showed that the event was a definite success. While it was a bit chaotic to plan and to get everything going the day of, everything fell into place thanks to the help of the wonderful ULN staff, our dedicated volunteers and of course, the exceptional students of UT 17, 18, and 19. I loved helping to plan and coordinate this event and I look forward to working with my team to see more projects like this come together in the future! :)

On October 29th, I volunteered at the mock disaster drill for the UT School of Nursing. I played the role of a victim in the drill, which helped senior nursing students and social work students practice what they would do in an emergency response situation. The drill was interesting and a great learning experience. Even though I wasn't playing the role of the nurse, I got to see how the nurses responded and was able to think through what they did well and what I would have changed had I been in that situation. This was my second time volunteering for the drill and I really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to next year because I will get to put my assessment and emergency response skills to the test.

Jamie Lee @ ULN Graffiti Park Clean Up

The graffiti park clean up was a fun event that I was able to put together with the help of mentors in the ULN Community Service committee. I really enjoyed meeting some of the TX19 students and working with them to help keep Austin beautiful by picking up trash at one of Austin's unique attractions, Castle Hill Graffiti Park.

On February 12th, I volunteered as a victim for the UT School of Nursing Disaster Drill. The purpose if the drill was to evaluate the response of nursing and social work students in disaster situations. I really enjoyed this experience because it gave me an idea if what I will be required to do as a nurse.

On Monday, December 8, I made holiday goody bags for staff members with my ULN mentees. It was a lot of fun hanging out with them and making small tokens of appreciation for our wonderful staff! :)
