Personally, this is one of the most satisfying forms of community service. It feels very rewarding to see how powerful it can be when a group of people get together for the betterment of the environment and community around our campus. Something that made this experience extra special was the moment two children, probably around the ages of 12 were walking with their parents and were inspired to help. They both had small pieces of trash, presumably that they found on the ground after seeing what we were doing. With big smiles on their faces, they asked if they could throw them in our bags. It was very special to see their excitement to be able to help and hopefully inspiring for them as the grow up. Additionally, two separate cars honked at us and give us a thumbs up for our efforts which felt good.

Community service hours like these need to be offered/ organized more often. Its such an easy and simple activity, yet has a huge impact.

It was fun to make a little bit of a difference for a cause that does so much for people in need. It was also a good experience to engage with members of the GW community that was also dedicating their time to this initiative. We set up corn hole, connect four, and other games. Additionally, decoration needed to be done. Streamers and other items in the Relay for Life's trademark purple and white colors were draped across the railings. Lastly, we helped out at the information table in order to assist with any questions from the participants and guests at the event.

I provided 1 box of hot chocolate and 1 container of coffee as part of our team's basket. It felt great, as it does every year, to be able to help GW Lacrosse and their amazing fundraiser.

    Review and Reflection:
Helped the grounds crew weed gardens by Fulbright and Milken, and cleaned out the gravel paths and gardens of leaves and cigarettes in front of Milken.

Seeing the results of our labor was very rewarding, especially the gravel, and benches near Milken. I have attached before and after pictures showing what we were able to accomplish. The other weeding was a little tedious and back-wrenching work after having a pretty strenuous lift the day before.

I was a little disappointed that we were able to plant trees and water them like others did in the morning session. This I was looking forward to, so have to make the adjustment mentally to doing another task was necessary.

    Feedback:
I think athletes are certainly a good group of volunteers to target for this organization because of their dedication and work ethic. This we communicated to the grounds that were in charge of us. And they were very thankful for this information and resource that they hadn't tapped into before this volunteer opportunity. They mentioned needing more volunteers at a later date and were excited at potentially having more athletes help them out.
