This was the first official practice that I attended. We set up 2 drills for the kids, one was shooting and the other was passing. There were some conflicts that took up some of the time but it was definitely helpful in terms of building skills. Three bracelets were handed out for leadership skills the past week which I think just strengthens DC cores Goals. I really enjoyed today and seeing the kids interact with each other and the coaches.

I really enjoyed my experience with Lucky Dog. If I had to asses what type of service this would be it would definitely be advocacy. I have not done this type of service before but it was interesting to see how the leaders of this organization had to find.a way to stop people who were walking on the street going about their day to tell them about their organization. I think the dogs did help some but a lot of people stopped and asked questions. The dogs were so cute and I will definitely volunteer with them again!!
It was the first game day that I attended. We took a bus to Tyler elementary school which was only 15 minutes from Walker Jones. We pulled up t the field and had a few minutes of warming up before the girls played. They tied 0-0 but it was interesting to see how Mr. Smith and Jim coached. The boys played next and they lost 1-0. I am so used to seeing older players play but it brought back childhood memories. I want to find a way to get involved with game days whether it just be simple things as setting up warmups or such.
Volunteering was just what I needed to feel myself again and was a very good first day of working with DC Scores. The kids were a bit rowdy and hyper but I think it was because they were excited. It definitely showed me a different side of nonprofits because I have not worked in this type of setting, but I really enjoyed meeting the kids. I am looking forward to working with them!
The first day I volunteered at Dumbarton Oaks. We learned about an invasive species of plants that are killing the plants and trees around it and then spent 3 hours weeding it out. There were a lot of bugs but it was very rewarding to see how much progress we had made. The second day I volunteered at Life Pieces to Master Pieces. The school was not in session nor was the program, but Soffi and I helped clean out the storage closet and organize the items into boxes. I really liked learning about the stories behind the art and how their program runs.
Maggie and I attended this training in order to get certified to serve with DC scores. It was very interesting because a lady came to talk to DC Scores about different ways to lead and interact with the kids. It was a long day but we also got to sit in on a poetry workshop which was very interesting! we got to write our own poems and learn the techniques of helping kids write poetry too.
