Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service & Leadership 2020

Painting the walls of Savoy Elementary School proved to be a challenging project logistically in terms of getting set up and creating a clean site. But I was proud of my group for sticking with the project and working as a team throughout the duration of our service.

I really enjoyed what Alex from DC Central Kitchen had to say about getting his start in a career of service and making a productive transition from just being a "Community Service Kid" to being someone who truly lives out the values of service everyday through his career. I also enjoyed attending the first part of the GW Teach Session on making partnerships with DC Public Schools however I would have liked to learn more about the partnerships GW Teach is developing with the schools instead of just having a dialogue about whether or not we think it is important for GW as an institution to enter into partnerships with DC Public Schools. Although perhaps the presenter got to that later in the session but after I had to leave to go to a meeting.

This log of hours is for the first three weeks of service I did at Manna for my Fact, Field, Fiction placement. I serve full days 9-5pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays and work from 9-1pm on Fridays for a total of 20 hours each week which over 3 weeks accumulates to 60 hours. In the first few weeks I was working to solicit donations to serve as auction items at Manna's upcoming reception and auction and was assigned a grant to work on. Also as it is needed I enter new donations onto DonorPerfect and prepare acknowledgement letters of those donations to be sent out.
