Melissa Schwab

Melissa @ Foggy Bottom West End Village

Assisting seniors locally is an integral part of being members of the communities in which we live. I had a great experience assisting a member of FBWE Village with grocery shopping and walking around her neighborhood.

GW Dance Marathon

While I was only able to do 9 of the 12 hours of DM, it was an amazing opportunity to raise money and meet resilient children who have battled health conditions and won thanks to the amazing work of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.

Gave 9.00 hours on 02/29/2020 with Kappa Alpha Theta
We Are Family

Delivering groceries to low income seniors in Columbia Heights was a reflective experience to see how people who live so close to us are being under served, and without this program would be further food insecure or financially unstable.

We Are Family

It was a great experience delivering necessary groceries to low income seniors in the North Capitol neighborhood.

The Store

This was my first time going to the Store, and I was so happy I could lend my services to an unsung service on campus. I restocked food items, cleaned around the food pantry, and helped with trash clean up. As a student who has often worried about how food insecurity might affect me at GW one day, it was comforting to know there is a safety net available that provides not only nonperishable food products, but professional clothing, sanitary products, and fresh food items as well.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service & Leadership 2020

Having positive impacts on the community, whether that be organizing a roof garden or cleaning an art classroom, is a reflective and useful way to spend the day off to celebrate MLK's vision for everyone's ability to do service.

Melissa @ March for Our Lives GW

For our class project, we decided to work with March for Our Lives GW to spread the Peace Plan among the GW community. Our group, Peace not Grief, held a tabling event in District where GW community members could learn about current presidential candidates' positions on gun policy and write to them on letters containing the Peace Plan. This was an amazing opportunity to be directly engaged in activism and I hope to see GW students and politicians alike pushing for the adoption of the Peace Plan as codified policy in the future.

Gave 30.00 hours between 12/09/2019 and 12/10/2019 with Courses: Community Engaged Scholarship, Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL), George Washington University, HSSJ 1177 Organizing Social Justice and Human Services, Kappa Alpha Theta, Panhellenic Association, Student Organizations
GW College Democrats

It was great meeting other members of Dems to relax before finals while making blankets for a great cause.

Melissa @ GroW Garden

I love gardening and miss the work I usually do at home in the spring, so an opportunity to do so at GW especially in a city setting was a welcome way to start the week. I was also able to do so with my Theta sister Sara Currie which made the experience of puling out weeds and tilling the soil even more enjoyable. The produce that will be harvested in the future also goes to a great cause I am happy to support.
