    Impacts

School of Business at the Nashman Center Symposium on Community Service

    1. After going around the room and exploring the different presentation that were available, the one that impacted me the most was the one of Food Insecurities and seniors in Ward 8. In this presentation they introduced the issue Ward 8 has because of the lack of healthy food sources and medical assistance. It was incredible to see how there is only one market in the whole area which offered healthy food and was is affordable and additionally theirs only one senior center in Ward 8. This are major issues and need to be addressed which is why they proposed various initiatives, like lyft ride discounts for elders to be taken to the market.
    2. I attended the sustainability Forum 308 in which they explored the fact that about 40% of all food produced in the U.S is wasted. It is incredible the amount of food that has been getting wasted in the united states even though, there are million of people dying of hunger around the word. Additionally from just wasting this enormous portion of food, the amount of natural resources like water that are getting wasted is incredible and this has caused for environmental issues like the increase of Greenhouse gases emissions. There is something to be done with this issue and we need to act now; some of the ideas and initiatives they proposed may help but we need to stop prolonging the problem and resolve it now.

    Martha's Table

I really liked my experience in Martha's Table. We were able to engage with the DC community and learn more about the people who live here. Being an international student and having the opportunity to engage and help people that aren't from my culture or nationality, had a great effect on myself.
