    PT 8481 Interprofessional Community Practicum

    Volunteered at pro bono clinic in Brookland, DC and served 3 patients. The first patient was 1 month s/p carpal tunnel surgery and 2 months s/p ulnar nerve elbow surgery. Student and physical therapist conducted the subjective history, ROM exam, looked at scar tissue healing and did patient education on current HEP and posture education. The patient was also given a walking boot for 5th metatarsal stress fracture. Student and therapist educated patient on calf stretches and gait training with the boot. Student did soft tissue massage on patients' shoulder. The second patient c/o lumbar pain, especially with construction profession and lifting body mechanics. Student and therapist went over the patient's current HEP and offered recommendations for child's pose, hamstring stretches, and ballistic stretches before work with static stretches after work. Student and therapist also used a mirror to practice deep squat with lifting a ball and bringing it to chest as well as core strengthening exercises. Pt education included using a pillow between legs while sleeping on patient's side. The third patient c/o frozen shoulder aka adhesive capsulitis. Student and therapist performed ROM assessment and PNF scapular movements as well as AP joint mobilization for the humeral head. Student also did soft tissue massage for patients cervical neck tightness as well as supraspinatus tightness. Pt education included gravity minimized shoulder flexion and abduction exercises as well as circumduction movements.

    Helped market before 5K and set up and cheer/direct traffic during 5K. It was a fun and social community event to support Diabetes' screening for the Pro Bono Clinic.
