    GW Community Response to COVID-19

I created an infographic on invasive species in CT. This included research on invasive species. I then picked the two invasive insects as my subject. I researched them and compiled information and graphics. I then designed and executed an infographic on the topic. This was helpful to me beyond Bio because I know what insects to look for that could be harmful. I also got to use graphic design skills which will help me in the future with my career goals.

Clothing swap two. This clothing swap was less busy than yesterday, likely because of the nice weather keeping people outside. This made the event a little less fun as we were not interacting with as many people. However, it was still great when people came in and we got to talk to them about sustainability and help them pick out new clothing!

Working the pop up has been awesome! From the beginning of the pop up onwards, our total inventory of clothing has changed completely. It has been amazing seeing all the growth of clothing in our inventory, and all the different types of clothing we have received. It is also really interesting to see what people have wanted to take from our inventory.

Pop up set up. We put all the tables out and put all the clothing out that we had. We had a lot and it has been awesome seeing the amount grow.

    A Wider Circle

It was great getting to work at a Wider Circle for the day. I met a lot of amazing people in need who got to bring home beautiful things from the facility. I worked mostly in the kids section. I was told to make it look like a toy store/play room, so I put out toys in a way that would be easy for a little kid to play with. As I was organizing, a little girl came in with her mom. She started playing with all different toys, which made me so happy! Her mom felt bad she was making a mess, but I reassured her that that was no problem at all, as long as she was having fun. I spent some time with her as her mom dealt with something else, I think packing the car. We looked at all different toys and I helped her pick out something she liked. Then an older boy came in looking for toy cars. He could not find any, and when I brought him one from the back of the room he was so happy and thankful! It was so great getting to help kids, who are going through a hard time, have fun and get some great toys. When it slowed down and the toy section was clean, I went upstairs and folded some clothing. It was great seeing all the different clothing that has been donated for kids to wear.

This hour I spent making flyers for our March 7 and 8 pop ups. This is important as these are a main way we will be advertising the event. These flyers will be hung in dorm buildings and outside on campus. It was fun making these flyers and I will be able to use them in my portfolio.

This was an hour I spent organizing the logistics of our two pop ups on March 7 and 8. I reached out to multiple GW institutions to look into potential spaces for our event. I then researched potential spaces and found the spaces that best fit our event and compared them to their availability. Finally, I scheduled and organized the spaces needed for the events. This is important to our project as it was the booking of the spaces needed for our event. I enjoyed doing this as it also gave me a deeper knowledge of GW and event spaces. It allowed me to play an important role in the organizing of these two pop ups.

I spent this time making graphic design logos for Swap Co. and our garment swaps. This is important to our mission as it helps draw people to our clothing swaps. I did this remotely and without my group, but then I showed the logos to my group for feedback. The logos will be used at our pop ups, as well as on all flyers and social media posts for the pop ups. This work is helpful to me besides our bio class as I can use it in my portfolio for future graphic design jobs.
