BTC: Onion Creek Greenbelt | Mulch spreading and litter pickup for National Public Lands Day

On that Saturday morning, I took part in this activity. It is worth to do that and I gain a lot from this experience. Nearly 9 and a half, we were divided to several groups. I was assigned to spread the mulch with people from another UT group. The specific thing I should do was carrying the mulch to a little cart and spreading some of the mulch. After we identified the objective tree, we began to work. The working process should be monotonous but we still found a lot of fun from it. We found a beautiful big spider hanging on the tree and a striated snake too!!! We finished spreading the mulch around three tree in total. All of our group members feel very happy for this activity.
As a student studying in geosciences, I could say that this activity really influences me a lot. It helps me to learn the ecology better: which species of tree are in danger and which types of snake are toxic. Another thing I want to mention here is that there are a lot of wild animals(including the insects) in Texas parks. There are barely any animals in parks in my hometown. So this experience ignites me to think that we should really do something to protect the ecological environment. Besides the above things. It also helps me to learn some skills of planting like one should move the tussock plant around the tree before spreading the mulch and which way are the best for carrying the mulch… Moreover, I enhanced my group spirit from this activity too. The six members in our group were all do our own works seriously and helped others sometimes. It was because our group spirit that made us work more effectively than other groups.
From this activity, Not only we helped to protect the environment, But also I gained a lot of knowledge and fun. I will absolutely participate in this kind of activities later in my life.
