Lots of good work accomplished!
1) Spread out 60 cy of mulch in the Dog Park both to feed the trees and help stop erosion.
2) Dug out a new flower garden to utilize water runoff from the water fountain area.
3) Continued root collar cleaning around trees in the Park that had been mulched on IMPD in November
4) Planted the Community Garden
Great work by volunteers who worked hard to improve park. Nice to see Austin Parks staff stop by.
As always it was a special community outing, with everyone contributing to enhancing the neighborhood. There are two projects working adjacently and there were some minor issues related to that in terms of not realizing that there were two projects so not necessarily signing up for the one on which I wanted to work and a couple of 'territorial' attitudes, which were a shame. One suggestion for next year is to have one registration for the two projects with the option to choose one or the other. We would like to also suggest that more promotion of the day by OWANA and the Dog Park folks prior to the Day would be great e.g. signs at the Park inviting people to sign up.
It was amazing. A lot of work, but very satisfying to help a group of people who creatively solved a problem of a leaky fountain with a flowerbed.
Lots of volunteers materialized so we were able to complete our tasks.
Everyone seemed to have a good time and worked safe.
Excellent weather.
PARD stopped by to clear off all our trash and were genuinely interested in our project.
